The Race is Not to the Swift

There's a bunch of speculation about how the delegates will fall out on February 5th, and a bunch of race-track betting on who will "win." There is also a lot of commentary about Obama's choices in not contesting New York and California as intensely as he "should."
My own sense is that the Obama campaign is playing a 'conservative' --no, not that way, dangit! -- game intended to minimize the impact of February 5th.
More interesting, I think this has been their strategy since mid-summer. And, to be bold, it is working so far.
Commentary on Obama, in Lynn Sweet's piece on Illinois

The internuts is getting pretty dreary and old. Orwell once said that saints must be judged guilty until proven innocent. But Obama has made no claims to sainthood, only the presidency. Further, it's a sad day when the American people have so far departed from our Constitution to be thinking that sainthood is a requirement or a result of taking the President's job.
In Lynn Sweet's blog, http://blogs.suntimes.com/...
'Wallace' writes:
'Obama is a highly ambitious hustler who will say whatever he has to say and ally himself with whoever to reach his personal goals. Eventually most of the Illinois voters will see him for what he is and his rock star will soon to fade.'
Yawn....
"Find" 'Obama,' "Replace" 'Hillary Clinton.' "Find" 'Illinois,' "replace" 'New York.'
Otherwise, my sentiments exactly.
A sodden Politician's affair

Politico, and much of the rest of the print media finds space to cover a 'homecoming' 'rally' for the Clinton's in in Harlem --why do the Clintons seem to attract scare quotes? The audience for the free rally was about 1,500, as a rough guess 300-500 of these cheering attendees were Democratic Party machine members and their hangers on. Rather underwhelming.
